24.06.08 KNOWLEDGE HUB FOR THE ASIA-PACIFIC REGION TO BE LAUNCHED
Queensland water expertise is showcased internationally with the launch of the Brisbane based International WaterCentre Knowledge Hub for Healthy Rivers and Aquatic Ecosystems in the Asia Pacific region.
The launch ceremony will take place at the International RiverSymposium on Wednesday, 23 September 2009 in the presence of representatives from the National Water Commission, the Asian Development Bank and other Knowledge hub representatives.
As a Knowledge Hub, IWC will network with the purpose of generating and sharing knowledge regarding healthy rivers and aquatic ecosystems and connecting people to the best capacity development services by collaborating with government entities, water sector agencies, non-government organisations, communities and regional organisations.
IWC is one of the 12 Asia-Pacific Water Forum’s regional water knowledge hubs, a family of internationally recognised institutions committed to generating and sharing water knowledge and building capacity in the Asia-Pacific region.
Organisations throughout the region including Singapore’s Public Utility Board, China’s Yellow River Conservancy Commission, Korea’s K-Water, Sri Lankan based International Water Management Institute and others are all hosting Hubs on topics as knowledge areas as urban water management, decision-support systems, water quality, irrigation reform, water governance and climate change.
The Asia-Pacific Water Forum is an independent, not-for-profit, nonpartisan, and nonpolitical network dedicated to improving sustainable water management by championing best practices, boosting investments, building capacity and enhancing cooperation in the water sector.
IWC undertakes education, training, research and consulting activities to promote whole-of-water cycle approaches to water management. IWC is a joint venture of The University of Queensland, Monash University, Griffith University and The University of Western Australia.
