Expert advice for Australia and the world

Through collaboration with our member universities and partners, the IWC is helping to build a critical mass of integrated water management and catchment-related expertise.

Having a breadth of international experience and networks enables the IWC to proactively contribute to sustainable water management outcomes in Australia and specifically in South East Queensland.

What we do in Australia:

  • We provide strategic and scientific advice to the Queensland State Government on key water management issues such as the establishment of Australia’s first regional purified recycled water scheme and on other water issues of state significance.
  • We support capacity-building in Australia’s water sector to deliver integrated and whole-of-water cycle outcomes by ensuring access to the latest scientific findings and industry best practice.

What we do in the world:

  • We enhance the capacity of the sector to deliver effective and efficient WASH programs.
  • We collect and analyse data to support government and donor agencies with decision-making and assist NGOs and local communities to establish funding and project priorities.
  • We develop processes to support gender equity and local community participation, and create understanding of engagement in water resource management issues.
  • We identify, generate and exchange best practice information for the protection and restoration of rivers and aquatic ecosystems.
  • We provide training and postgraduate courses in integrated water management that incorporate all aspects of the water cycle.
  • We develop and share frameworks for monitoring and evaluating the health of rivers and aquatic ecosystems.
  • We create a pool of experts, water leaders and champions with knowledge, skills and passion to protect and restore rivers and aquatic ecosystems.
